Gear up for Winter in Florida!

While winter sends most of the country indoors, Florida’s Adventure Coast, Brooksville – Weeki Wachee comes alive with sunshine, cool breezes, and endless outdoor adventure. With comfortable temperatures in the low 70s, it’s the perfect time to paddle crystal-clear rivers, hike beneath towering trees, and cycle through scenic trails. Winter also welcomes manatees and migratory birds, offering unforgettable wildlife encounters. Clear skies and sparkling waters make Florida’s dry season ideal for exploring nature at its most vibrant. Plan your getaway and discover how refreshing winter can be on Florida’s Adventure Coast.

Kayak & Paddleboard Adventures

Paddling is one of the signature winter experiences on Florida’s Adventure Coast. Spring-fed rivers maintain year-round clarity and refreshing water temperatures. Where these waters meet the gulf, the Bayport-Linda Pedersen Paddling Trail makes an excellent choice for birdwatchers and those seeking a quiet refuge. Discover local outfitters for guided paddling tours, kayak rentals and more.

Watch for Manatees: Winter months bring increased manatee sightings, but this is also the time of year when they are most at risk. Observe manatees respectfully, and know that it is illegal to touch, chase or harass them in any way.

  • What to Bring: layered quick-dry clothing, polarized sunglasses, dry bag, reusable water bottle, sunscreen and appropriate footwear.

Boardwalks and well-marked trails at the Chinsegut Conservation Center provide easy access to wildlife viewing, including sandhill cranes, red-headed woodpeckers, deer, and seasonal migratory species. Closer to the coast, the Weekiwachee Preserve is known for its scenic lakes, flatwoods and other habitats, home to winter sparrows, Florida black bears and butterflies. All three places are listed on the Great Florida Birding and Wildlife Trail, among many other parks and preserves on Florida’s Adventure Coast.
